The Magnolia Family is one of the most primitive of the angiosperms (flowering plants). Fossils of Magnoliaceae date back 80 million years, into the late Cretaceous. Magnolia can grow to be 90 feet tall. It's a large, striking evergreen tree, with dark green leaves and white, fragrant flowers up to 12 inches in diameter.
