Adult Volunteers
Ever wonder what it would be like to work at a zoo? Do we have an opportunity for you! If you are interested in participating in the Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens efforts toward conservation, education, and learning innovative ways to help the environment, then we need you!
To become an Adult Volunteer here at the Zoo you must first come to a Volunteer Information Meeting. Please plan to attend the next scheduled meeting from 4:00 – 5:00 p.m. on Monday, June 25. At the Volunteer Information Meeting we will discuss the basics of what it means to be a volunteer here at the Zoo. We will discuss how we choose a volunteer’s placement, the different placements available, and the process to of becoming a volunteer. The Volunteer Information Meeting will be held in the Auditorium of the PepsiCo Foundation Education Campus.
Please be aware that there is a $15 fee for volunteering. This fee covers the cost of the volunteer name badge, volunteer t-shirt, and processing of information. This fee is not due until the Volunteer Orientation. You will be given the dates for upcoming Volunteer Orientations at your interview.
All new volunteers will need to complete the Online Application. This can be done before or after the Volunteer Information Meeting.

Teen Volunteer Program

So you want to be a Teen Volunteer?
Thank you for your interest in volunteering with the Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens. Teen Volunteers must be at least 14 years of age and have completed the 8th grade by the start of the summer volunteering session.
Six Steps to become a Teen Volunteer:
- Attend a Teen Volunteer Information Meeting on Saturday May 26th 10:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. at the PepsiCo Education Campus Auditorium.
- Complete an Online Teen Volunteer Application.
- Secure letters of reference from two people not related to you. Download a reference form here.
- Schedule an interview with Volunteer Services.
- Please Note: The teen needs to schedule this interview directly, not through a parent.

- This is to be done after the teen attends the Volunteer Information Meeting.
Bring the following to your interview:
- Two letters of reference
- A Release of Liability form signed by teen and parent or guardian - Download a teen liability form here.
- Documentation of a negative TB test
- Can be submitted at Teen Volunteer Orientation if not completed by the interview date
Your summer availability and the specific schedule to which you can commit for volunteering
- A list of any planned vacations or known needs for time off
Attend Teen Volunteer Orientation on Saturday, June 9 from 10:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m.
- Note: You must have attended a volunteer information meeting and had a personal face-to-face interview to attend the orientation.
Corporate Groups and Organization Volunteers

The Zoo welcomes the opportunity to work with local businesses and organizations to plan a group volunteer day. Whether it’s landscaping, light maintenance, cleaning or special events, the volunteer experience is always more fun when it’s done at the Zoo.
