Plastic Free July is a month-long campaign among zoos, aquariums, and their communities to pledge to reduce their single-use plastics.
Our staff are joining the cause in their personal lives and we invite you to join us!

It's all coordinated via an online portal where you can choose which specific, plastic-free actions you'd like to do for the month of July (say no to straws, use bar soap instead of bottled, cook meals using food without plastic packaging, etc). Since a habit is formed at around 21 days, the hope is during the 31-day campaign you would walk away with 1 or 2 plastic free habits to benefit the environment long-term.
We'd love to have you join our Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens team.
It's a fun way to track and measure your impact!
The Zoo is making some changes too! Beginning July 1, the Zoo is:
- Removing all plastic bags from gift shops indefinitely
- Providing a promotional price on reusable bags and water bottles for the month of July
- Removing all plastic salad containers and lids on our medium-sized cups
- $1 refills on drinks, if you bring your own reusable cup!
