Celebrate the holiday season and create a family tradition admiring the sparkling lights and brilliant hues at the Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens’ Third Annual ZOOLights event. Thousands of LED lights will transform the Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens into a luminous winter wonderland filled with moving sculptures, forests of lighted trees and animal silhouettes. Guests will have the opportunity to view sculptures and performances by local artists including students at UNF and JU, yarn bombing by Yarn Bomb Jax, and a train display by the First Coast Model Railroad Society in our Discovery Center in Play Park. In addition to walking among the thousands of lights strung throughout the Zoo, guests can enjoy a unique view of ZOOLights by boarding the Zoo’s lighted train. Guests can also enjoy carousel rides, the 4-D Theater Ride featuring the Polar Express, marshmallow roasting, warm weather “ice” skating and more!

Frequently Asked Questions
What time should I get there?
ZOOLights opens at 6:00 p.m. and closes at 9:30 p.m. on Monday-Friday and 10:00 p.m. on Friday-Sunday.
The gates for ZOOLights will close 1 hour prior to the stated closing time. The last Train will run 30 minutes prior to closing. Activity lines will also close at this time.
What is the best way to see ZOOLights?
ZOOLights is best seen experienced when you take the Illuminated Train Ride from the front of the Zoo to the back and then walk back up towards the front stopping in the Great Lawn for s’mores, Santa and skating and then stopping in Play Park for model trains and nightly entertainment.
What animals will be on exhibit during ZOOLights?
Many of the animals will be sleeping inside, however the giraffes, jaguars, and Lost Temple reptiles and primates will be open for guest viewing. There will be a Sea Lion Splash Presentation every night at 7:15 as well.
Is ZOOLights handicap accessible?
All ZOOLights venues are handicap accessible; however, the bouncy house at the Fairground area may not be appropriate for some guests.
I am buying a ticket online. Where do I select the date I want to attend ZOOLights?
Tickets are good for any one night of ZOOLights. You do not have to select a specific date when purchasing your ticket.
Are skates included in the price of “warm weather” ice skating?
Yes! Skates are included in price of ice skating. Socks will be available for purchase at the rink. Each skating ticket is good for 15 minutes on the “ice”.

Sculpture Exhibit 2014
The history of the Zoo expressed through sculpture.
In honor of Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens’ 100 year anniversary, local artists have created beautiful pieces of art which commemorate milestones in the Zoo’s history. The Northeast Florida Sculptors worked with various mediums to bring the rich history of the zoo to life.
These sculptures will be exhibited in the Bamboo Gardens until the end of the year.

Join us to hear John Andrews share how the Jacksonville Zoo influenced his life and career as a world traveling ornithologist. John began attending zoo camps at the age of 6 for 8 years. Once old enough, he began volunteering in all zoological departments until being hired as a keeper in 2004. He earned his Bachelors at UF and his Masters at the University of Illinois. He has worked on field conservation projects on four continents.

25th Annual Bowling for Rhinos
25th Annual Bowling for Rhinos!
The Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens’ chapter of the American Association of Zookeepers (AAZK) is holding its 25th annual Bowling for Rhinos event on Friday, June 20th and Saturday, June 21st at the Batt Family Fun Center on 1838 Cassat Avenue at 7 p.m. Registration begins at 6 p.m. A $25 registration fee includes three games of bowling and shoe rental. There is a $10 registration fee for non-bowlers. One Hundred percent of the proceeds from the event go directly to three rhino sanctuaries.

What is an AAZK Chapter?
An AAZK chapter is a local branch of the national American Association of Zoo Keepers organization. Our chapter is made up of a group of dedicated individuals committed to helping captive and wild animals.
What is Bowling for Rhinos?
Each year the Jacksonville Zoo AAZK chapter sponsors a fundraising bowl-a-thon called Bowling for Rhinos (BFR). The members involved collect sponsors and bowl three games.
Over 70 chapters nationwide hold BFR events and raise over $250,000 annually. 100% of the money goes to help endangered rhinos and their ecosystems.
Where does the Money go that is raised in the Bowling for Rhinos Event?
Lewa Wildlife Conservancy (LWC) in Kenya Africa
Ujung Kulon National Park in Java, Indonesia
Bukit Barisan Selatan National Park in Sumatra, Indonesia
The money sent to these parks not only help to protect the rhinos, but entire ecosystems.
Lewa Wildlife Conservancy (Kenya, Africa)
This sanctuary in Kenya includes 62,000 protected acres with a 2 meter tall electric fence. This area protects not only Black and White Rhinos, but also over 75 other mammals such elephants, cheetahs, and zebras. More than 350 bird species utilize the conservancy along with numerous rare plant species.
Ujung Kulon National Park (Java, Indonesia)
This park includes 300 square miles of area and is home to some of the rarest and most endangered plants and animals on earth. The last of the Javan rhinos reside here, with less than 60 remaining!
Bukit Barisan Selatan National Park (Sumatra, Indonesia)
This national park includes 3,568 square km of protected area and is believed to have one of the largest populations of Sumatran rhinos. This park also protects other endangered animals such as clouded leopards, tigers and Asian Elephants.
How much money has been raised?
Since 1990 the American Association of Zoo Keepers “Bowling for Rhinos” (BFR) has raised over $450,000 annually. To date, the Jacksonville AAZK Chapter has raised over $70,000.
All money is raised entirely by volunteer efforts of zoo staff members across the country.

2014 World Penguin Day
Join the Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Zoo’s Tuxedo Coast exhibit to celebrate World Penguin Day! Guests can enjoy learning about penguins and participating in some fun penguin activities including the opportunity to see penguins up close and chat with their keepers. World Penguin Day is a celebration that coincides with the annual northern migration of penguins.

DinoTrek Grand Opening
Although once believed to be extinct, a new generation of dinosaurs has been found onsite at the Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens! Venture through the DinoTrek exhibit to get up close and personal with over seventeen different species of dinosaur.
Grand Opening festivities on March 1-3, from 10:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m., will include prize drawings, live entertainment, and more. DinoTrek will be open from March 1-June 30, 2013.
