Programs for Adults

You’re never too old to enjoy the Zoo! Our Education Department offers a variety of entertaining programs for adults and seniors throughout the year.
NEW PROGRAM SERIES! - Eco-Arts and Crafts Workshop Series
A new workshop series designed for adults. Children ages 15 and up may participate with a parent or guardian, and must pay a separate registration fee.

| February 1 | Garden Art Workshop -Butterflies are coming to the Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens! Soon you’ll be able to stroll through our enchanted land full of butterflies, fairies, and gnomes. Until then, you can join us as we create garden art that is both functional and attractive! Design and build a fairy house to be a part of our upcoming Butterfly Exhibit, and learn how they may actually attract and provide for critters in your own yard! Whether your garden is home to critters real or imagined; enchanted or endangered, you’ll construct a duo of delightful decorations: one for our exhibit and one for your yard! | 9:00 a.m. – Noon |
| March 7 | Plastic Bag Crafts - What can you do with all those plastic grocery sacks you have stuffed away in your pantry or drawers? Sure, you can recycle them, but where’s the fun in that? Join us as we explore new uses for those plastic bags, both functional and artistic. All supplies will be provided. Take home a work-in-progress along with instructions to complete several different projects using plastic bags. Basic skills in sewing, crochet or knitting will be helpful, but not necessary to enjoy this workshop. | 9:00 a.m. – Noon |
| April 11 | Recycling T-shirts - What can you do with that closet full of old t-shirts that you can’t bear to part with? Could it be destined to become yarn? A scarf? An accessory? A shopping bag? Come learn several ways to reuse or repurpose a t-shirt! Bring at least one t-shirt with you to work with. Please bring at least one t-shirt of your own to work with. | 9:00 a.m. – Noon |
| May 23 | Recycled Jewelry - You’ll collect compliments galore when you show off your handmade, recycled jewelry! Make gorgeous, eco-friendly accessories from “easily obtained materials”! | 9:00 a.m. – Noon |
Cost: $35 will cover all supplies needed for this workshop as well as light refreshments.
Location: Each workshop takes place at the PepsiCo Foundation Education Auditorium at the south end of the Zoo’s parking lot. Zoo admission is not required to attend.
Registration closes the Thursday before each workshop takes place.
