Origin:

southeastern Mexico

USDA Cold Hardiness Zones:

9-12

Light Requirements:

Full sun to indoor indirect light

Soil Requirements:

Drought tolerant, allow to dry out between watering

Notes:

  • The swollen base is an adaptation for storing water in times of drought
  • Do not water too frequently or allow this plant to sit in standing water
  • Makes a great low maintenance container plant for inside or out
  • Not really a palm but is related to the Yuccas and Agaves
  • In preferred environment can get to 30’ tall, when used as a house plant in cooler areas may get 6’-8’
