Light Requirements:
Full sun. Will take some shade but trunk development is suppressed in heavy shade.
Soil Requirements:
Average watering is sufficient, but is very adaptable to drought or standing water.
Notes:
- Can reach heights of 50’-70’
- Very salt and drought tolerant.
- State tree of Florida and appears on the state flag of South Carolina.
- Organic debris and plants material often collects along the trunks in the old leaf stem bases, or “boots”.
- All the leaves and roots are pruned when transplanting, giving the appearance of telephone poles.
